Semester: Fall 2025

This course aims to cultivate practical academic English skills required for graduate-level work in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Students enrolled in this course are expected to read academic literature in linguistics and the related fields, write abstracts, give poster and oral presentations, prepare for application to PhD programs, and develop a professional online presence. The ultimate goal is to prepare students for conference presentation and journal submission. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio that includes an academic CV, a personal statement for application to PhD programs, a research abstract for conference submission, and a sample writing.


Intermediate Spoken Chinese

Semester: Fall 2023 – Spring 2025

This course provides a comprehensive and engaging approach to learning spoken Chinese. The goal is to enhance students' proficiency in spoken Chinese, enabling them to confidently communicate in real-world situations. Through this course, students practice using language skills in authentic, day-to-day conversations. The lessons are designed to be interactive and engaging, with a focus on practical language use. Students are also introduced to diverse cultures and customs in China and encouraged to take the initiative by presenting topics that relate to intercultural differences.


Advanced Comprehensive Chinese

Semester: Summer 2023, 2024

This course is tailored specifically for the summer school session, spanning three weeks. This intensive program is designed to hone students' skills in speaking, reading, listening, and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture. The course is part of a larger summer school program that aims to create a dynamic and immersive learning environment where students can not only refine their language skills but also immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of China.

The course focuses on advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary expansion, and complex language use, preparing students for more sophisticated communication in Chinese. Students also delve into articles covering a wide range of topics, enhancing their reading comprehension and cultural awareness.
